Eastern Washington 2012

I'm putting up some pictures of our family's camping trip in July. For the second year in a row we drove all the way over to the Republic / Curlew area which is about 20 miles to the Canadian border and close to Idaho. It's a long drive and this year the whole county where we camp was hit by a huge storm that killed a few people and knocked out the power and water. The state park we were going to was closed and things weren't looking too good as we had no place to camp and it was the late afternoon. All the hotels in town and everywhere around were full. Plus, we had convinced my parents and my sister Jessica and her husband Isaac and their three children to come camping with us, telling them how gorgeous our special place was. The Lord came to our rescue in the form of a Republic resident who saw us all standing around our vehicles in the parking lot of the town's only grocery store looking at maps and trying to figure out what to do. She told us about the Ferry County fair grounds and actually drove there ahead of us to show us where to go. It wasn't what we were planning for our vacation and a good reminder to me of how easy it is to get our hope in almost anything but Jesus. We ended up having a great time and stayed there for the whole week.

These pictures aren't in any particular order - you can click them to enlarge them.

Cameron and the children in the stream - our campsite was right alongside this lovely stream which afforded hours of good "clean" fun - hehe!

Calvin and Shannon

Calvin telling the story of Jonah to his cousins and Joan.

I love, love, love these next two pictures! My Dad, Calvin, Cameron and Warren.

I know that my children will never forget all the games of Bocce with Grandpa.

Evelyn and Ellen :)

                                                        Nice kids!! Lovely countryside.

Joan playing with her birthday present from Grandma Carrigan.

Grandpa and Joan at the campfire. Joan thinks she has a telescope!

Shannon caught the frogs, of course!

Cameron really got into the water with the children, making it so much more fun.

                                                                     Joan and Allison

Shannon had so much fun with that butterfly net, except she used it to catch large amounts of baby fish.

The next two pictures could be titled: "Morning Story Time With Ellen".

Shannon in a tree.

The dam that Cameron and Uncle Isaac built - making a nice little swimming area for hot children.

Beautiful! Many times I would just look around me and think "How can anything be so beautiful?".

Allison and Joan on a ride in the town hardware store when we drove the three miles to Republic. My favorite part of it - the ride costs 10 cents!

Only people who like the "Andy Griffith Show" will appreciate the next picture! It was on the wall of the hardware store.

Grandpa and Calvin. One of my favorite parts of vacation was my children being with my dad all day long.

Joan with me at the morning camp fire - she doesn't look like she's liking getting her picture taken.

Joan and Cameron - there's just something about Dad's and girls!

                                                            More water fun!

                                                             Boys in the morning.

After we had camped for a week, we drove to the Chelan water slides where we met up with my sister Leah and her family. We had a great day. Later, we drove to Wenatchee (one of my favorite cities) to stay overnight. Our family walked about 4 blocks through downtown to go out to dinner.

If you ever find yourself in Wenatchee at night for some reason, the picture below shows one of the best          restaurants I have ever been to - just a little suggestion!

I hope you have enjoyed these pictures - we enjoyed our time - but I'm always glad to come home to our real home and regular life too. :)
